  • Hello sammysoc,

This is truly devastating news I am so sorry to hear that your husband has received a terminal diagnosis and that his cancer has spread. You might be interested in reading more about advanced oesophageal cancer and in particular you will find a section on support at home for your husband and your family. There is a lot of practical and emotional support available to you so don't hesitate to reach out and get the support you need whether it is on a practical or emotional level.

Feel free also to call our nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040, from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. They will be happy to give additional advice about who can help you and what kind of support is available.

I hope that you will also find support within our community by talking to others who have also been diagnosed with stage 4 oesophageal cancer or who are looking after a loved one with this cancer. I had a look on the forum and found for example [@SallyR]‍ who would be a great person for you to connect with. You can read her thread here and you will see that she too is looking after her husband with oesophageal cancer. She is also very active on RayB's  thread so don't hesitate to post in there too if you wish. You can find the latest posts from this thread here.

I hope this helps a little and gives you a starting point to chat to others who are or have been in a similar position. You are certainly having to suddenly deal with a lot and I wanted you to know that you are not alone, that we have other members here who will relate to what you are going through, to the feeling you describe that it all feels a bit surreal for you at the moment.

Best wishes to you and your husband,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
