Adjuvant Chemo - Testicular Cancer

Hi - I am in tomorrow for this following surgery (stage one seminoma).

Any tips of what I can do before to ease any side effects

Cheers

Nick

  • Hey Nick,

I'm so sorry no-one was able to get back to you before you had your surgery but I hope it went well and you're feeling o.k so far.

Hopefully some of our members will share their tips and advice with you soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our cancer nurses about this you can get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Your treatment team should be able to help you manage any side effects that may pop up as well so do be sure to keep them in the loop if you start to feel unwell.

Wishing you all the best with your recovery Nick.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph.

48 hours since I had it now and thankfully feeling ok. Had a couple of restless nights but nothing terrible.

I have manged to do a couple of small walks and eating as normal with no sickness (anti sickness drugs finish tomorrow).

Not sure if there will be a crash later as know recovery can be a bit longer but got all the Helpline numbers.

  • I'm really glad you're feeling o.k and things are going well so far.

A walk, no matter how far you go, is progress so it's great you've managed to get out for some small ones and I hope you've been enjoying them.

Hopefully you won't need to use them, but it's good you've got the helpline numbers to hand as well.

It all sounds very positive Nick; fingers crossed it continues

Hi Nick ,hopefully your still feeling OK. Just wanted to let you know that my son had Testicular cancer,it spread to his stomach 5cm tumour  his chest 3cm tumour, and he had a spot on his lung. He had one of his  testicle removed ,obviously theaffected one ,and then he spent whole weekends and was home for three weeks, and then back again at weekends staying in London Hospital having chemotherapy.  He had 267hrs of chemotherapy altogether, and im so pleased to say he is now all clear. He was diognosed just before Christmas 2019,had operation in 2020 and the chemotherapy, and a year on all clear,he does have regular check ups  , so I just wanted to let you know as it is good to know when someone gets through  and beats the type of cancer your going through, although your cancer may not be completely the same as my sons ,but it is treatable and can be cured. Good luck and I pray everything goes well for you too.

  • Thanks for the reply there.

It is really great to hear your son made a full recovery from it. Sounds like he was incredidbly brave throughout everything too.

I am feeling alright at the moment and count myself lucky but not underplaying what I have been through.

Main side effect is the tiredness although I am sleeping well so assume it is just the chemo working through the system and doing its job.
