BCC

I was diagnosed with a BCC around 8 weeks ago which I have had for around a year but only went to the GP because it had gotten bigger and had changed colour and shape. I noticed it was raised with a rim around it, also raised. It's itchy and bleeds if I rub it or after showering. I was referred to dermatology and have since received a letter from the NHS telling me I am on a list but they cannot tell me when I will get an appt. I am worried that it could be a squamous carcinoma and not a basal one and because I've had it over a year it might have spread if it is a squamous ? I'm in Scotland and don't know if waiting times are any less here than down south.  Should I be worried ?? Google is wonderful but I wish I hadn't used it now. I donate to Cancer research every month and have done for years

    Hi Lizziekins,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis and hope that it won't be much longer before you get an appointment. Is your appointment to be seen at the breast clinic? If this is so, you should be seen within 2 weeks, although it can take a little longer in some parts of the country at present. We all get worried at this stage, but unfortunately, this won't alter the outcome either way. If it's of any consolation to you, most of us tend to think the worst at this stage, but fortunately, this seldom happens.

Sadly, you have already learnt the problems with Google. We usually advise people not to go here at this stage, as much of the information is out of date, poorly researched or aimed at the more spectacular cases and only heightens your anxiety.

Here's hoping that you find out exactly what you are dealing with soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    kind regards,
