Endometrial Cancer Stage 2 Vaginal Brachytherapy

Hi, following my hysterectomy I am due to start vaginal brachytherapy this week. I am v worried about the longer term side effects of vaginal dryness and shrinking. I have been given a dilator. Just wondered if anyone can tell me how they coped with these symptoms and any advice on improving these symptoms. Is it a given that I will get these symptoms???

  • Hello Jomar and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I know you're starting your brachytherapy this week so I just wanted to wish you good luck and let you know we'll do all we can to support you on your journey.

I hope this information we have about vaginal brachytherapy and the possible side effects this may bring will help but if you'd like to speak with one of our cancer nurses about this, you can get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have had this treatment will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jomar66,

Hope you are doing fine with the radiotherapy.

I have been diagnosed with Stage 2 grade 2 endometrial cancer after hysterectomy. I am going to start radiotherapy in Jan.Did you have any scans before your hysterectomy n before n during radiotherapy? I was not given any scans.

    I am really worried.

Hope you do not mind telling me a bit more

    Best wishes,

    Chui

  • Hi Chui,

I had scans, MRI and Hysteroscopy which confirmed I had endometrial cancer. At first my doctor thought the cancer was contained in my womb but after my hysterectomy my cervix was removed as well and pathology tests found cancer cells in the cervix as well. I was offered vaginal brachytherapy in case there were any cancer cells left behind. I had 3 lots of brachytherapy.

The brachytherapy was honestly pain free and so far side effects are just minimal need to use a dilator to help with shrinking.

Had my brachytherapy at end of September 21 and have not had any follow up appointments. Was initially told I would be monitored quarterly for 2 years so hoping I will get an appointment in the new year.

It's so hard not to worry but I am being positive and trying to just get on with my life. I really wish you all ghe best and hope your treatment goes well xx Jo
