2cm lump found in my mum's bladder

Hi,

After finding blood in her urine a month ago, my mum has just had a scan which revealed a 2cm lump in her bladder.  The surgeon said it could be cancer, he commented that 2cm is small and will need to be removed so she is now waiting for her appointment time to come through.

In the meantime she is obviously very worried.  More concerning is that she has recently lost weight (could be due to thyroid medication though) and over the past year she has had many unexplained symptoms, such as feeling faint and dizzy, high blood pressure spikes, tightness in her head, lumps around her groin area and swollen legs.

My question is how and when will they know if the cancer has spread and how long should she expect to wait now to have the lump in her bladder removed?  Can somebody advise?

  • Welcome to the forum Denise although I'm very sorry about the lump that's been found on your mum's bladder.

Due to the pandemic, the waiting times are different all over the country but if you'd like to try and get a rough idea of how long it may be it would be best to try and get in touch with the department that your mum is under or with her permission, her GP.

Unfortunately I cannot say how and when they will know more about the cancer but if you'd like to find out how the process works then you're very welcome to give our cancer nurses a call. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040 and will do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members who have been on this journey will share their experiences and advice with you soon but in the meantime we'll have our fingers crossed your mum won't be waiting too long for her appointment to come through.

    Kind regards,
