Photodynamic therapy- advice please

Hi,

I am hoping that someone may be able to help me. I have a BCC on my cheek and my dermotologist has booked me in for photodynamic therapy. I have to go for this twice.

Stupidly i googled it, and it looks like it can be an unbearably painful procedure when on your face. Has anyone had this treatment before and do you have any advice on how to make it less painful? My anxiety is through the roof about it. I have read that fans may help but if anyone has been through this themselves and has any advice i would hugely appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello scooke

I'm sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with BCC and that you're now waiting for photodynamic therapy. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things.

Do discuss your concerns with the Consultant. There will be options available to ensure that things are as manageable as possible for you.

I had a look through posts on the forum and can see that [@Moonshimmer]‍ mentioned in this post about the possibility of having PDT to treat BCC. I'm unsure if they have had it (yet) but I've tagged this into my reply so they may see your post and respond.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can.

    Best wishes,
