Colon cancer spread to kidneys rare?

Hi there, I have been checking online for my diagnosis and am finding it very rare. 
I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer 18 months ago and have had a full radiotherapy treatment as well as two full lots of chemo. 
I have just been told my new treatment is palliative only due to the spread to my kidneys but I'm kind of freaking out as everything I have read is not good news and nobody on any of the colon cancer Facebook groups have come back with anyone having the same.
I know I am now terminal stage 4 but I would love someone to hear from anyone whom has had the same diagnosis and managed to beat this or how they are living with it.
