Breast Cancer treatment and work

I have recently been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma grade 2. It is very small. I am having a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy daily for 3x weeks. I am going to see the Business Manager at work and was wondering how this makes people feel regarding going to work? I can't imagine how long I will tell work to expect me to be off, so just wanted some feedback on that if possible. I teach. Thank you.

  • Hi naturaljazz

after my BC diagnosis I spoke to both the partners in th firm I worked.  I had worked with one of the directors for 11yrs and the other for two after our two firms merged.

it was my intention to work through the treatment when my body felt right and I did following surgery up to the point when I started my chemo treatment.

I did try to work in the office after my first cycle but when there was a Covid scare both directors told me to stay home and concentrate on getting better and not worry about work.

i have been lucky, the support from work has been fantastic, I hope you have the same experience also.

  • Hi naturaljazz

I got diagnosed bc in March, had surgery in April. I knew I had to have chemo and radiotherapy and had planned to work from home on my good week after chemo session. However this has not been possible due to side effects and my concentration not being what it was.

My work have been great and said concentrate on getting through this and better.

Hope all goes well for you
