Breast cancer

Hi, I've just received my results today from the breast screening clinic. I've got stage 1 invasive duct cancer. It's treatable, I've got to have an op ASAP and possible radiotherapy after. My main worry is that I've got to stop taking my hrt and I know I suffer really badly with menopausal symptoms if  don't take it as I've tried stopping before. I don't get hot flushes, but I suffer with depression and anxiety. I'm dreading the effects and I don't know what to do. Also, is the procedure a lumpectomy? It doesn't sound so bad put that way.

  • Hello Brown-Sugar

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis but it's sounding like the team are positive that this can be treated which is great.

It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about stopping HRT and the possible health issues that may arise because of this. Do speak to your GP and breast care nurse about other possible options that are available to help manage your mental health and any other symptoms that you may experience.

We have some information on our website about having a lumpectomy which hopefully will be helpful to you but I'd really encourage you to give our team of nurses a call and chat things through with them as well. I'm sure they will be happy to talk things through with you and offer some information, advice, and support. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Brown-Sugar and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
