Pain &, lump in vein back of hand 4wks post surgery

Hi there, I'm 4wks post surgery for wle on kned and lymph node biopsy in groin.

My issue though is since last Friday I've had a small painful lump in my vein on the back of my hand where they sited a catheter.  The pain is very tender to touch or even if i pump the fist. The tender small lump in the vein though has moved each day. It was completely pain-free yesterday up till this afternoon and it's now painful and tender again but this time just below my index knuckle. It's on my left hand (non writing hand) and I haven't knocked it. I happened to phone my keyworker about something else and mentioned this but she said it sometimes happens and it should go away on its own.  It's really really painful and I'm using a hot water bottle wrapped in a teatowel trying to relieve the pain and tender feeling. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thankyou

  • Hello Sarahlou43,

Poor you this sounds rather painful. I know you've already spoken on the phone to your keyworker but I think it would perhaps be a good idea to give your GP a call and mention that you are 4 weeks post surgery and are experiencing these issues. They will be in the best position to advise you further on this and to give you some tips on on how to relieve this pain.

I hope you manage to talk to someone very soon about this.

    Best wishes,
