Newly diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Hi I'm 37 and have just been diagnosed with stage 1 grade 2 breast cancer. I go for surgery on the 9th of September and I have been very positive about it all until I was told that the hospital would be checking Lymph nodes under my arm on the day of surgery and now I am terrified that it might have spread...  how likely is this to be the case if diagnosed with stage 1 only 2 weeks ago...

  • Hi Delbx,

Really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with stage 2-3 last Wednesday and had an armpit biopsy on Thursday to check for positive lymph nodes. I am anxious too but after speaking to the nurse this morning, she reassured me it is highly unlikely there would be spread in that period. The horrible thing is we don't know for sure. I'd suggest chatting to one of the nurses at your unit. Hopefully they can put your mind at ease. Take care and look after yourself

  • Thank you so much for your reply and I'm very sorry to hear about your diagnosis also. I hope you get the good news you need xx
