Dying with Cancer Abroad

Hi all, i was just looking for information and came accross this site - looking for direction if possible. i have a bother living in Germany, he's been diagnosed with cancer, stage 4 lymphoma deemed terminal with 6/12 months left to live.

i'm trying to help from a distance and to understand what assistance is available from the health care system in Germany. Google searches have brought little info back. i don't speak German at all so communication with his doctor is not straight forward.

what does the health care system offer for someone in my brothers position? if any? my only objective is to find as much information to hel him navigate this situation as best as possible.

he's never had to use the heath care system - with the exception of the local GP, which frankly has been exceptionally slow in getting him sorted with chemo sessions after being diagnosed.

Thank You

  • Hello LondonA. I'm so sorry to hear that your brother has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. As you are aware Cancer Research UK is a UK based charity so our expertise doesn't extend outside this country. However, we do have a comprehensive list of German Cancer organisations  which might be helpful. In addition, The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) provides lists of service providers, to assist British nationals who may need support overseas. You can find details of English speaking doctors and medical facilities here plus some further information on healthcare for Britons living or working in Germany

I hope some of these resources are helpful and wish you and your brother all the very best

    Kind regards
