Hi, I can't give you any first hand advice for oesophageal issues. 
My mams passed away following lung cancer 3 years ago (only 7 weeks after diagnosis ) and my dad passed away after a 8 year battle with prostate and Kidney cancer. It's so hard taking in a cancer diagnosis for a loved one and had experience caring and nursing for them after diagnosis. 
Was such an awful time but was an honour at their time of need.

Ive just been diagnosed with breast cancer -so I also know how awful is is being told you have something rotten growing inside and can't do anything about it. The awful wait not knowing what result and treatment plan drove me mad. I'm not awaiting lump removal and radiotherapy- so not dreading my next journey.

Just being there and helping out will be a huge help to your hubby. Knowing he's not alone. Attending appointments. Even just holding hand is enough..

Some people are open to talking about it like me my but my dad was the oposite and didn't want to know. Everyone has own way

I went into work and told workmates as rather people didn't feel sorry for me and rather ask questions than chat behind my back.
Talk if he wants to talk and you listen .or be quiet if that's what he prefers.

so sorry for you loss, and your diagnosis. Must be a very difficult time for you.  It is very much like an emotional rollercoaster.  Yes the waiting is torture. We have good friends and family support,  Life is so precious, and can change in the blink of an eye. You do know that,but don't really take it on board   until something like this hits you. He has had 2 cycles of chemo, and you wouldn't think anything is wrong with him.  His swallowing is completely normal, eating anything and everything. Amazing really when only 5 weeks ago he could hardly get fluids down. His weight has increased too. Emotionally up and down, to be expected.  He starts radiotheraphy daily and chemo weekly on 1st nov, and has been told that he might possibly go back to the beginning with his swallowing, and that some people do need a feeding tube if it gets really bad. So fingers crossed that doesn't happen.
