Lung cancer - lung function

Hi All,

Mum was diagnosed with lung cancer last week and was meant to have her lung function test. It was cancelled due to staff shortages and they have gone ahead with the bronchoscopy last friday. Shes now feeling awful and chesty, coughing alot and now worried that this will show negatively for her lung function reading.

For context she used to always test her function and capacity which has now diminished a lot since the bronchoscopy.

Any advice?

  • Hi there, the bronchoscopy is necessary fore her treatment. My husband has stage 4 lung cancer and he said it was the worst thing he had ever experienced as he was doing OK until then!  So her lung function test will be done eventually but it's now a case of waiting to see what results come back so they can treat her cancer properly.  It's a tough road to travel with lots of things happening so it's hard but you just have to be patient until her results come back. Hope this helps a bit.  Kind regards, Carol

  • Hi, I was diagnosed with lung cancer last November and had a broncoscopy early December.... they need to take samples of the cancer to decide which treatment is best. I felt absolutely awful after the broncoscopy, with a horrendous cough and very chesty..... took about a week to subside. Don't worry too much about the lung function test, just concentrate on getting the treatment started . Hope she gets treatment started soon . Any questions, don't hesitate to ask .x

  • Ok thank you.

The broncoscopy side effects have upset and made her worried.

Shes not had any symptoms. Walking 30,000 steps just last month and breathing well. We dont lnow the staging or grading yet. All worrying.

I hope you are doing well too x

  • Hi, I've had 4 lots of chemo with immunotherapy, which reduced the cancer by half, and since February have been just on immunotherapy every 3 weeks. At the moment it is stable, hopefully will stay that way for a good while .
good luck with the treatment ... the NHS  has been amazing .
