oesophagus

Hi

my dad is 93 and is currently not able to eat or drink

and constantly sick.

this weekend he was admitted to hospital where they put loads of drips on him for what he was lacking such as glucose and potassium. They also tried to get him to have the camera down his throat test which he declined so gave him a scan.

he then discharged himself as he wanted to come home

id promised him I'd never leave him in hospital to die and I'd  bring him home within 3-5 days and look after him.

The scan shows a blockage which my Dr has said he's almost certain it's cancer and don't think it's worth putting him through anything else and he'd contact palliative care to call at the home.

He is very weak but still has full sound of mind and this

is is not a good thing for us as he is very argumentative today recalling back in the old days and would say we were lying when we joined his conversation. ( Although tired he pushes himself)

he suffering so much and telling us he feels so ill.

he has lost over 3 stone in weight in 6 weeks

any advice what to look out for with him

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Caz1962, although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that brings you here.

Caring for someone with cancer can be one of the most difficult things we will ever experience in life so I'm glad you came to us as you will find many others who have been there and who can offer you advice and support.

Hopefully it won't be long until you get to chat with some of our members but in the meantime I thought I might leave you with a page from our website called Family, friends and caregivers where you'll find tips on how to support someone your dad and how to take care of yourself. I hope this is help.

Best wishes to you and your dad,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
