Confused- contradicting results for breast malignancy

Mum had a pleural effusion that was drained and pleural biopsy was done, several IHC stain of the pleural biopsy (not breast biopsy) the pathologist said metastatic adenocarcinoma, breast as primary. Two weeks later, breast ultrasound and mammogram showed BIRAD category 2 benign. So confused...

Ca 125 and HE4 confirmed ovarian cancer, so Mum is waiting for total hysterectomy. Initially we were told (before the benign results came out from  the mammogram and breast US) could do the mastectomy at the same time as the hysterectomy  so will be dealt with under one surgery slot, but now the doctors are not thinking of doing the mastectomy anymore.

Which test is more sensitive in determining if there is breast malignancy - the IHC stain from pleural biopsy or the breast US and mammogram? Don't know what to believe anymore...

So worried because aside from the ovarian cancer, the breast queries still haunts me. I should be happy that the BIRAD category is benign but because but  feels inconclusive due to the initial diagnosis that breast is the primary.

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

  • Hi, sorry to hear your mams going through this.

I haven't got many words of wisdom or advice regarding your situation.
Does your mum have a nurse or point of contact -even the consultant at the hospital that you could ask for clarification?
lots of people on here are really good offering first hand info too.

Best wishes to you and your family
