Any impartial advice….

Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum, hope there is some advice for my problem?

I have just received my biopsy results which is Gleason score of 7 (3+4) and psa of 10. My consultant is recommending removal of my prostate with robotic surgery. He has also offered the choice of Radiotherapy.
I was wondering whether anyone has gone through a different route of treatment or asking for second opinion. Just a bit sceptical as I am fortunate that my firm offers private healthcare so this is a private consultant just worried that treatment offered is expensive so lining their pockets without thinking of the outcome to me!!!

  • Hello notnats67

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious and want to make sure you make the best decision for yourself about your treatment options.

Both radiotherapy and prostate removal with robotic surgery are treatments that I know we've had members post here about on the forum before. Hopefully, some of them will post to share their experiences with you.

As you're not currently seeing an NHS surgeon I'm unsure how you'd go about arranging a second opinion but I'd suggest speaking with your GP in the first instance who may be able to give you some advice and support.

Alternatively, if you'd like to speak with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. Whilst they can't advise you about which course of treatment may be right for you they can give you information and try to answer any questions you may have which might help you in your decision.

Whatever you decide, I hope that the treatment plan goes smoothly for you.

    Best wishes,
