ENT appointment: dad has been diagnosed with mouth cancer

Hello my dad has been diagnosed with mouth cancer. We have an ENT appointment today. Anyone know what happens? Awaiting Radiation treatment.Been told an operation is not possible.

  • Hello Bunnygirl_20,

I noticed you hadn't yet received a response and wanted to welcome you to our forum! How did your dad's appointment go? I hope that everything went well and that you now have some definite answers.

Our website has in-depth information on mouth cancer which includes a section on treatment for mouth cancer.  You will find out more about radiotherapy treatment for example. I am sorry to hear though that you have been told that an operation is not possible but I hope that the radiation treatment works well.

If you have any questions about your dad's diagnosis or treatment and would like to talk to one of our cancer nurses, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope your dad's treatment goes smoothly and that by now you will have had more information on his treatment plan. I will edit your title slightly so that it includes the words 'diagnosed with mouth cancer' - this will hopefully make your thread more visible to others who may have been affected by mouth cancer and they will hopefully be along shortly to share their stories with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

my husband was diagnosed with tonsil cancer, hpv16+ in January, it had spread to his lymph nodes and wasn't operable, he had 6 weeks of chemo which consisted of 2 cycles and 6 weeks radiotherapy, everyday, 5 days a week.  He is now 10 weeks post treatment and doing very well, he's cut down the painkillers to just paracetamol and is starting to eat reasonably normal,  it's a very brutal regime but he will get thru it, we see the consultant again  in 2 weeks and he will look down his throat then we expect a scan appt not long after, fingers crossed it will be all clear, hope everything goes ok for your dad

ps if they offer a feeding tube tell him to take it, it's a life saver,  otherwise he will lose  so much weight and it will hold back the recovery.
