I am very sorry to hear that your friend's dad has been in a lot of pain since finishing treatment 2-3 weeks ago. It might be a good idea if the pain persists for your friend's dad to get in touch with his medical team and to explain the situation. They will also be able to advise and say whether this is to be expected 2-3 weeks post treatment.
