NHS

Recently diagnosed with ILC bilateral likely as can feel it. This was missed by shoddy NHS breast clinic Drs (confirmed) Right now I am angry.  They saw changes last year but guessed a diagnosis and I am fuming about the radiologist who again this year said its all normal on a scan and mammogram, yet his boss took 5 times longer in examining me and asked me if she could do a biopsy, they found breast cancer. If this blind and the incompetent radiologist has missed me this year and someone did last year how many other women have been negligently treated. I have contacted a solicitor- I am so tired, But have to hide all including diagnosis as I am a 24/7 live-in carer for my friend who is terminal and on her final chemotherapy for palliative lung metastatic bone cancer. I am so frustrated, angry, sad and also have 2 dogs one with lymphoma and one also terminal using CBD after having a huge aggressive tumour removed she is my absolute pal with 4 legs. Trying to keep us all alive is draining but a necessity. I cannot tell my terminal friend about my diagnosis as it will affect how she deals with her illness. Radiologists, have any of you had a poor reading by a radiologist and do you all think a score should be placed against all those diagnosing cancers who miss them and they should not be allowed to work unchecked ?

    Hi DRKS,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am not a doctor and I don't often defend the NHS, but on this occasion I must.

Some cancers are easier than others to pick up on a scan, whilst others don't always show up. I have been in your position too and know how frustrating it can be. Mine turned out to be a grade 1, pure mucinous cancer, which often doesn't show up on mammogram or ultrasound. I have had 2 bouts in the past 12 years and found both myself. Whilst yours may have been a case of human error - I dont know. Sadly, radiologists are only as good as the equipment they've got.

Do you know what type and grade of breast cancer you have and, what treatment is planned for you? I sincerely, hope that it all goes well for you, as it sounds as if you have an awful lot on your plate at the moment. Please keep in touch. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi DRKS

I was diagnosed with DCIS in 2018. No other cancer was picked up until after I have bilateral wide-area incisions then it was discovered I had both ILC and IDC, which came as a shock. Unfortunately as [@Jolamine]‍ points out the technology isn't advanced enough to pick up everything, so I'm afraid there will be women out there with false negatives, even more, difficult for those women, like myself who have dense breast tissue, mammograms are inadequate for us. You have a lot on your plate, it's no wonder you're feeling overwhelmed.

I hope you have the support that will help you through this,

    Take care x
