Possible CLL diagnosis

Hi everyone,

Im 59 and recently got referred by A&E to a haematologist who has told me he is almost certain I have CLL. I only went to A&E with an ear infection and have never been to hospital/ GP for decades so you can imagine my shock at getting this news. He says I have a WBC of 23 and have mild Thrombocytopenia which he says is common with the blood disorder.
I rarely drink, never smoked, eat healthily, run 3 times a week. He believes I have had this in me for 12-18 months. Can anyone with CLL please give me any hope or advice as I have to see him next week for a follow up after more blood given and I am totally stressed.

thanks Geoff

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community Geoff although I'm sorry there's a possibility you may have CLL.

Understandably, this must be a rather scary time for you at the moment but you're not alone as I've been having a look through the forum and found some members that may be able to help. [@Frankie58]‍ was diagnosed with CLL just a few days so will definitely understand how you're feeling and [@marbles12]‍'s husband found out they had CLL back in 2019 so again, another member of our community who may be able to share some experience and advice. You'll also see on this discussion that quite a few members towards the end of last year were talking about their experiences with CLL. If you'd like to connect with them all you'll need to do is click on the pink reply button at the bottom of their post.

Our team of lovely cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to talk things through with them but for more information and advice you can visit Blood Cancer UK and CLL Support.

I hope this helps and all goes well next week.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
