Lung Cancer Spread To Liver, Kidneys and Bones

Hi

My mum has had various tests for over a year now. She's had xrays on her chest and knees and has had so many blood tests her arms have been black for about a year now. All tests came back clear. The most recent pain has been in her back. She was sent for another xray and then a CT scan straight after and its shown up she has lung cancer which has spread to her liver, her kidneys and its also in her bones and has fractured her back. We've been having nurses coming to the house every day for months now and I just can't understand how it got missed all this time.

She was called up to the doctors on Monday and he broke the news to her and alls he could tell her was that 'it wasn't good at all' and she had to wait to see the consultant which is still 1 week away.

The whole family are devastated and the waiting is causing absolute agony. I know every person is different but I was just wondering if anyone has been through anything similar? From what I've read online it says she might only have a matter of weeks left with no Chemotherapy - is this true?

I'm having to search for my own answers as we have to wait over a week to find out from the consultant and we are trying to prepare ourselves the best we can :(

Thanks in advance

  • Hello Sam.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It sounds as if the past few months have been a difficult time for you all and for her to now be given this news, it's understandable that you're feeling devasted.

You mention that Mum has an appointment with the Consultant next week. Can I suggest that you give our team of nurses a call for some advice and support ahead of that appointment. I'm sure they'll be able to give you some information and help you think about the kind of questions that you may want to ask the Consultant. If you would like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Sam. and let us know how things go.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

    Thanks so much for replying

We had a couple of pages worth of questions ready for the consultant. My mum was taken into hospital Monday night and they said they if she was still in hospital today, they could set up a virtual meeting with the consultant. That didn't happen. She was told they could get the consultant to see her in hospital or rearrange for another date. She's asked 3 different people today for an update on seeing the consultant but nobody can tell her anything. She's not allowed any visitors at the hospital either.

We're all still anxiously waiting for information
