Bile Duct Cancer

Hi ,

My father 59 was diagnosed with bile duct cancer back in April this was diagnosed through a CT and MRI. He was then told he would need a biopsy to determine the stage and what treatment to give we are now in the middle of July and he has had 4 biopsies that have all come back inconclusive, but there still saying its cancer. After the 3rd biopsy they caused a massive infection which made him rather ill but apart from that he has been ok. Has anyone else experianced anything like this.

I just cant get my head round how 4 Biopsys can we inconclusive but they still are convinced its cancer??

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, hosler123, although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that brings you here.

There are other members who have been diagnosed with bile duct cancer and I hope that some of them will come along shortly to share their experiences with you.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that we have a page on our website where you can find out more about bile duct cancer and hopefully this will help a bit to deal with your dad's diagnosis.

Also, if you feel like speaking to one of our nurses might help, please feel free to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

With best wishes to you and your dad,

  • Hi ... just wondering if you have any more news on your dad? My mom was literally diagnosed with bile duct cancer in the distal region last Thursday (14th July) . She 68 presented with a bad stomach ache. Was fobbed off by A and E for a week then became jaundice so had some investigations. Ct scan ultrasound and MRCP (mri) confirmed cancer with no biopsy? She is home now and her pain and jaundice have subsided. We are waiting to hear about what's next? We have been referred to BIrmingham. I am praying it is operable. The scan of the rest of her body was clear. The wait is awful. And I've read that time is of the essence with this cancer. I really want to be positive but all the stories and stats are so bleak. I hope you get a negative for your dad from the biopsy or at least a plan . Ty
