Hi, so my "journey" has started on the cancer road.
I had noticed a mole on my left knee grow, (it wasn't present last Aug 2020 as I have a photo of me in shorts) but it grew to 5p size then changed shape, colour blotchy and got itchy over the past 5 months. Went to go exactly 5 wks ago, saw dermatology and then booked for its removal which happened 2.5wks ago. Appt was made for Monday which I assumed would just be a post op and stitches out. It wasn't! Dermatology told me it was a stage 2 melanoma and the healthy margin of skin taken along with mole had cancer present. Then a whirlwind of discussions with plastics as they discussed the wide excision op to remove a further 3cm and need for a skin graft or a hatchet flap closure (they've decided on the hatchet flap after calling in a professor for his opinion) and I'll be having a sentinel lymph node biopsy in the groin at the same time. Op day is weds 4th Aug. Had my pre-op assessment and bloods taken today. I'm really struggling getting my head around it all as its all happened so very quick. I'm frightened the rate at which the mole grew means the cancer has spread beyond the area on my knee. I think I'm in abit of shock as I haven't asked any questions. I've been told what the op involves and that I'll be staying in hospital 1 or 2 nights but I don't know what it will be like when i come home. Any advice welcome please.
