Advanced cholangiocarcinoma

My normally fit and healthy 63 year old dad was just diagnosed with unresectable metastatic cholangiocarcinoma. At his first appointment with the specialist nurse she said he was palliative, she wanted to get palliative care involved and called him too weak and frail for chemo and started him on morphine. Just a few months ago he was doing brickwork at my house, as someone medically trained I am kicking myself for not noticing he was poorly sooner. I even commented on his weight saying he had lost a lot (he was thin anyway) but still didn't put two and two together.  He is yet to see the oncologist. Can anyone give me reassurance that they will likely try some treatment at least?

  • Welcome to the forum Yazz although I'm very sorry your dad has been diagnosed with metastatic cholangiocarcinoma.

Unfortunately no-one here can say whether your dad will have treatment but hopefully it won't be long until he is able to see the oncologist and find out what options are available to him.

You can find out more about your dad's diagnosis just here but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses you're very welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
