Breast cancer and diabetes

Is there anyone else out there who has both?

i had bloods taken in preparation for chemotherapy today and the oncologist called me to say I have high blood glucose- 24.5.
She said that's basically diabetes so I need to start treatment for that as well.

im feeling stunned. And frightened.

if anyone else had been there, I'd love to hear from you.

So sorry to hear your news....I’m a lot luckier than you as I have finished my treatment...7th May. However prior to my diagnosis I was prediabetic ...only 1 point off. I was particularly miffed as I’d been doing the 5/2 diet for several years and it’s supposed to virtually cure diabetes. However following treatment, having lost a few pounds I decided to cut my carbs ...I’d also lost my appetite a bit, started daily walks and I was surprised to lose 8lbs fairly quickly ...results show I’m now 2 points lower but still within The prediabetic range .. I also take a statin which raises risk of diabetes but there is a definite link between all these conditions and cancer frequency. All related to inflammation in the body. You’ve got a lot on your plate but when you feel able...

if it’s at all possible try to get more excercise and lose weight if you can . It’s a tall order I know but I’ve found the walking helped my mental well-being too. Wishing you all the best. You’ll find lots of helpful people on this site

    Take care
