Breast cancer diagnosis & swollen lymph nodes

Hi, I'm 31 yrs old, and I just got my breast cancer diagnosis today. They're sending me for chemo as it's non-hormone receptive, and they also took a blood sample from my lymph nodes as apparently they're a little swollen. I'm pretty worried now as the left side of my neck (the side of the cancer) is really achy. Has anyone else had any experience like this, or can they offer some advice? I'm terrified that the cancer is spreading through my lymph nodes, and that's what the aching is; or hopefully it's could be because of the needle going into the nodes on that side. I'm praying that's what this ache is!

I'm also having a full body scan sometime in the next week or 2, to see if it's spread. My absolute worst fear would be that it's spread to the brain, as the idea of brain cancer terrifies me, and now with an aching neck, I'm so scared the cancer is travelling there. Sorry if this is a bit rambling, just good to get my thoughts out!

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Stiltonite although I'm sorry about your breast cancer diagnosis.

I know this must all seem very scary and possibly a tad surreal right now but you're not alone as many of our members have been on this journey and I'm sure some of them will pop by soon to offer their support and advice.

We do have a section about breast cancer on our website just here but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you're very welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We'll have our fingers crossed that it hasn't spread anywhere else.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Steph,

Thank you for your lovely words :-) Like you say, it still seems so surreal; it's like I was in a dream in the hospital room, and it couldn't possibly be true! This forum seems like a really useful place to find some extra info, and of course it's so good to speak to others going through this.

    Best wishes,

    Nicola
