pemetrexed/carboplatin for stage 4 lung cancer

Hi please can anyone give me some advice my dad as be told he as stage 4 lung cancer noules in both lungs and hes been offered chemotherapy pemetrexed/carboplatin just to prolong his life I'm totally heartbroken as hes showing no signs or symptoms , not lost any weight I'm scared of this sort of treatment hes 83 , as anyone been in this situation themselves as my dad is in two minds refusing this .

    Hello Lucky2008, 

    I am so sorry to hear that your dad has been told he has stage 4 lung cancer. It must have come as a shock to you especially as he was showing no signs or symptoms. I can understand why you are worried about him starting treatment at his age but hopefully the Pemetrexed/Carboplatin combination will help prolong his life. There is information on this chemotherapy treatment on our website here. Feel free to talk to your dad's medical team about how you and your dad are feeling about this - I am sure that they will be able to answer questions you may have before he starts treatment.

    Hello thank you so much for your time,  yes I've been speaking none stop to his team roy castle foundation and so many more , which have been so supportive . Again yesterday said there could be life threatening side effects at his age , we as a family still not sure , the nurse rang me stated without treatment could be 6/12 months (which I've not told dad ) or 24 month based if he as treatment but this could also make him sick going through this treatment and it's on going every 3 weeks none stop .
