Just been told I have cancer

Hi,

I have to go into to hospital on thursday to find out what stage my cancer is and what treatment i need.

All I know is that I have cancer on my ovary.

I can't believe this has happened. I've only just got my life back on track after struggling with my mental health and now this.

I don't know what to do.

  • I do not have much to offer in the way of experiencing this, on this forum because of my dad who was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with terminal cancer. All I know is that they will do eveyrthing to help treat you and cancer care in the UK is really good. Lean on friends and family in this most difficult time and remind yourself that you will get through this. You are strong enough and your body will fight this. Praying for you, cannot begin to imagine how you feel but take all the help that is available and be kind to yourself. Thinking of you Xxx

  • Hi [@lowlo77]‍

Sorry to hear you have just had this diagnosis, everyone deals with this diagnosis differently and now that you are on this rollercoaster it is going to be full of waiting, emotional highs and lows and lots of questions whirring around in your mind.

The nurses and doctors that will work with you through this will be very supportive and they give you phone numbers that give you direct access to a nurse on your team. I would hope.... that was my experience, so would think it was not because I was special!!

When your waiting for answers it allows your head to just run wild and the time seems to go slowly.

I remember when the oncologist spoke to me and went through all the options and it just seemed to float by me, but he was really nice and took his time and made sure I understood.

I am now 9 months past my surgery ( mine was breast cancer) it now all feels like a whirlwind, but at the time, in that moment everything was in slow motion. There is no easy way to deal with this, it just happens around you and then you get to pick yourself up again afterwards and say well that was an  interesting turn of events!

I hope your appointment goes well on Thursday and please let us know how it went.

    xx

  • I am so sorry to hear your news. I was diagnosed last week with lung cancer. I can understand your world has been rocked and it seems unbelievable. I have the stage if my cancer but am now waiting for results of PET scan and MRI head scan.
Take strength from your loved ones and friends they will get you through. You will be stronger than you think.
Be kind to yourself, rest when you can. You will have lots of support from the NHS team, they will have a specialist nurse who will keep in touch.
Sending you hugs. Take care. X

    I'll friend request you

  • As a retired nurse l can say when you are in need the nhs rises to help in every way it can, with specialist teams that are very good at this type of problem ask lots of questions write them down before you go, and the answers when you are seen. It's easy to forget that thing that's been worrying you when you get to the dr. I hope that helps and you are reassured soon. Waiting is hard
