Biopsy - Cancer

Please can someone help me. Going out of my mind with worry and stress.

Lymph biopsy results came back positive for cancer. I was told by my consultant at local hospital Thursday 10th June. I had cancer and they suspect it's in my neck / head due to location of Lymph (collar bone). I was given cancer patient booklets/leaflets on this cancer as well as signing up for cancer register and treatment plan online etc... and have McMillan Nurse assigned to me for support.

They referred to Specialist team at Bigger hospital (they managed to get me in the very next day which was amazing). Specialist examined me and said they are 90% sure it isn't head / neck cancer. They carried out Two more biopsy's from same Lymph and another in same area and I have to go back for results Friday.  Why have they done more biopsy's? Shouldn't the first biopsy determin what cancer I had and where? Can the first biopsy be wrong? I am so worried and stressed. I am just so unsure what is happening here and just need some advice / reassurance / support :(

  • Hello. I'm so sorry to hear about how stressed you're feeling. Diverging communications are really difficult to handle. I think the best person to contact is your MacMillan nurse and talk about your worries and ask her the questions. Make sure she can access your notes before she gives any answers and if she can't answer your questions she could get in touch with the specialists on your behalf and hopefully allay the worries you have. I didn't have cancer in the same area as you but I did experience poor communications on two occasions that sent me into downward spiral. Good luck.

  • It's good to write down the questions before you go to the appointment ask plenty so you can fully understand what's happening they are happy to answer.the new biopsy may go for more in-depth testing. Nurses do understand that you are worried so talk to the team.hope that may give a little help
