Invited in for oncology consultation?

Hi - new here.

My husband was told on June 7 2021 that he has follicular lymphoma. He had very few symptoms other than the famous itch and two enlarged lymph nodes in his neck.

He was told alone, on Monday (he wasn't invited to bring anyone in with him and we assumed there were still Covid restrictions so I stayed outside) and didn't take much in - he was out of the appointment within minutes. He was told that the next move would be a PET scan and an appointment with haemotology. Today, he has received a phone call inviting him (and me, this time) in for a consultation with oncology. Is this normal? I am now freaking out that the diagnosis was wrong and he actually has a different kind of cancer which is less treatable (pancreative being top of my worry list).

We had been expecting the PET scan next rather than a consulation but not sure if this is just a step on the cancer pathway that we weren't told about. His biopsy result was sent to two different hospitals for checking so I am hoping the initial diagnosis is correct (in the grand scheme of things - I mean I'd rather it was wrong and he was fine, but you know what I mean!)

I am terrified. I have been lurking on this forum for months, fearing the worst, and I know how reassuring it is to read from people who REALLY know what they're talking about. Thank you.

  • Hi

Sorry to read he wasn't allowed someone in with him I do think now when getting results this should be allowed as you don't take everything in.

Could you phone the secretary and explain your worries that your husband didn't take everything in. You will likely get a letter explaining everything but this can take a while. You could also maybe call oncology they may be able to explain what will be happening etc.

    Best wishes
