Triple negative breast cancer

So just got diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. They said it's treatable and might need chemo, surgery and maybe radiotherapy. I'm not keen on chemo as seen my brother go through it when he was younger.

anyone going through the same thing and tell me there story?
I'm only 31 and don't have kids so this is all too much

  • Hi Rebecca

I got diagnosed with triple negative after my lumpectomy and snlb. I start chemo on 11th and will be having 2 different types of chemo given differently then 10 days of radiotherapy. This will take me roughly up to xmas.

I'm not looking forward to it at all however I really didn't want to go on medication for 5 years if it had been hormonal.

Only you can decide about the chemo after my oncologist went through it all and the odds I decided to go ahead.

  • Hi Louise!

thanks for your reply, how quickly did you get the surgery? I just got my biopsy results today and waiting on MRI I will see the medical staff in 1 week to decide my treatment plan, either chemo then op or op then chemo. In my head hormonal is less invasive and chemo is very tolling on your body. Obviously it's tough as this can be a cancer that comes back so need to do what's best!
    how are you feeling?

    Wishing you all the best!

    xx

  • Hi Rebecca

I had mammogram recall and had biopsy, ultrasound and 2nd mammogram on March 20th. Results were in on 31st they thought I had hormone positive at that point. I had surgery 21st April and I saw consultant 12th May when I found out it was triple negative.

I have severe osteoarthritis and should be having 2nd knee replacement now one of the main side effects of the drug is joint pain and insomnia. I couldn't deal with added joint pain and had suffered insomnia last year so although I know next 6 months are going to be very unpleasant I'd rather that than 5 years.

I'm feeling OK just want to get it started now.

    Hope you ok

    Xx

  • Hey Rebecca,

I'm 37 and got diagnosed HER2 Neg and ER Pos stage2A, Grade2.  We had just started trying for our first child when I found my lump.  I had my lumpectomy on the 12th of last month.  Your consultant needs to tell you everything that you may need to cover all the bases, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll need it all.  My tumour is currently making its was to the states for oncotype testing to determine if I need chemo (I REALLY DON'T WANT CHEMO!) I already know I'll be getting radiotherapy cause I had a lumpectomy.
I totally get how you're feeling xx
