Hello,
My mom has been diagnosed with stage 2 oral cancer of the tongue.
The oncologist is suggesting a tongue re-shaping/folding surgery for reconstruction, which will shorten its length (and hence, I'm guessing, has a major impact on speech) but will not use grafts from elsewhere. Unfortunately the dr is not going into any detail on this procedure and its impact. From my research online, I'm only familiar with the wrist/thigh graft method.
Has anyone been through this method? I need some advice please. What kind of effect has it had on your speech and/or other activity? Were you given a choice between wrist flap or tongue refolding?
