My mum and colon cancer

My mum was diagnosed with colon cancer a week ago. She was originally told that they’d caught it early, that she could have an op. She was also diagnosed with diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis.

Since then they’ve scanned and the tumour is wrapped around her colon, they can’t operate and she has  ‘cancer seeds’ in other places like her neck. They now think it’s been growing for 8 years. She needs lifetime chemo. She’s losing lots of weight.

She doesn’t see a nurse til June 10th but I’ve got so many questions! What’s a cancer seed? What are good supplements to help? I’ve bought her a nutribullet for high calorie / nutrition smoothies and some CBD oil, my brothers got her grape seed extract .  Does lifetime chemo mean you go in once a week?  Does this mean it's late stages?

I know you prob can’t answer but I’m still in shock and desperately trying to learn this new language. :(. I don't want to lose her :(

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Jodenice although I'm sorry about your mum's diagnosis.

I'm sure you're contending with a lot of thoughts and feelings at the moment but I'm glad you've joined us as you'll find many of our members to be in the same position and hopefully those who have experience of colon cancer will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

We have some information about colon cancer just here but if you feel it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses before your mum's appointment then you're welcome to give them a call from Tuesday onwards on 0808 800 4040 between the hours of 9a.m - 5p.m.

Do be sure to discuss the use of CBD oil and grape seed extract with your mum's medical team first as it may interfere with any conventional treatment she is due to have and possibly cause side effects as well.

Wishing you and your mum all the best for the 10th.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
