Hi there. My dad has this week been diagnosed with stage 2 moderate grade cancer at the end of the bile duct, after a week long hospital admission for severe jaundice. He was discharegd at the end of last week. He was told over the phone this week by I think a nurse, and we've been trying to glean more information from the hospital regarding further details. My mum was able to speak to the Macmillan nurse at the hospital yesterday and got some more info. He is going to be referred to a specialist cancer centre in London. At the moment, he is waiting for contact from the hospital for an appointment to meet with the consultant and discuss next steps. The Macmillan nurse said this could take a week or so before he hears from the hospital. For those who have been through a similar experience, could you shed light on the following:
- how long did individuals wait between point of diagnosis and appointment with a consultant to discuss treatment options?
- with all of the COVID stuff, will my mum be able to attend with my dad for his appointment with the consultant? My dad is quite deaf and also is not good at asking questions so would likely struggle on his own
- I am expecting that they might propose surgery as the next option. How long have others waited between agreeing to undergo surgery and actually having an operation? I am assuming it will be a Whipple procedure
Many thanks
