secondary breast cancer with dementia

hi im finding this really difficult, my mum recently was diagnosed with eary alzhemimers then few months later was diagnosed with breast cancer and  recently it is secondary breast cancer that has gone to her bones. now they say she can't have chemo because she has dementia, im understanding its because there's no cure to this cancer and chemo will make her dementia 100 times worse and she won't let people know about her symptoms, I know with out chemo her life expectancy will be less, im just wondering if anyone has gone throu this and what I should expect thanks in advance

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Bigbird although I'm very sorry to read about your mum. It must be very tough to take this all in when so much of it has happened in such a short amount of time.

I hope you hear from some of our members soon but whilst you wait I just wanted to share some resources that I hope will help you both at this time. Macmillan have some very useful information about cancer and dementia as do Dementia UK who have a guide for anyone living or diagnosed with both conditions. You can find out more just here

I hope this helps but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then you're very welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
