newly diagnosed ovarian cancer

I am recently diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. I had surgery and now referred for chemotherapy. i am very worried about side effects of nausea/vomiting. How severe these side eefcts are and when do they start after 1st injection of chemo?

  • Hi Uzafsr. Welcome to this forum

I am sorry to heat of your diagnosis. You will find a lot of comfort and support on this forum.
Chemo sounds very frightening I know.  I was the same. I was actually terrified but the nurses  are so good at what they do and are patient and helpful and support you every step of the way.  Every person has their own journey with chemo in that the side effects are not the same for everyone I am just about to start my 5th round. The first 3 were absolutely fine save for the odd bit of fatigue.  The 4th cycle was so different. I got very tired and nauseous but as soon as I flagged that up my nurses were on it straight away and got me help to manage my side effects. The nurses will do whatever they can to help you get through your chemo cycles. They really are amazing.

when do you start yiur chemo?  Just stay positive and try not to imagine what the side effects could be. You may have none of them.   Good luck and all the best for your treatment.

  • Thank you so much for the reassuring reply. Chemo starts on 27/5. I am still very anxious and scared

  • Do youeed someone with you all the time after chemo?

    Thanks

  • Hi

it is different for everyone.  You will be able to do more than you think. And if you are struggling the nurses will give you help with medication to support you. The only thing I have struggled with has been the nausea but they have now out me on ne2 medication which has helped. You will have days where you feel more tired and on those days I just give in and go to bed,  try not to anticipate what is going to happen. Take each day as it comes. Good luck and do let me know how you get on

  • Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately i am a doctor related to gynaecology and hence more aware of what chemo entails.

  • Oh that's good to know so you have more insight than I did. I just finished my 4th cycle today so fingers crossed I stay well

sendung you lots of good wishes for your treatment

  • Had my first chemo today. It went fine with no d St ide effects so far. Do you have any tips about eating, prevention of mouth ulcers?

    thanks

  • Hi

So glad to hear your first treatment went well.

I started  a vegan / Ayurvedic diet which has really helped me. Basically no diary wheat or meat it's surprisingly easy and very tasty too. In addition I have been juicing to keep my immune system strong. That also keeps your bowel healthy and the side effects of the treatment are less toxic I think.  I also take aloe Vera juice every morning followed by the Ayurvedic juice. To make the juice it is 2 carrots, 1 apple, white cabbage, turmeric and ginger. Sometimes when I feel fatigued by the treatment I add beetroot to the juice. It is delicious

i just had  my 5th cycle yesterday and hoping that the side effects are not too bad.

Please let me know if I can help in any other way. Have a good weekend

  • Thank you so much gor your helpful reply. I shall try that too. I hope your chemo goes well and you stay healthy and strong. What were the side effects with your 4th cycle?

  • Hiya

i think my side effects were due to my white blood cell count being very low so I suffered from extreme fatigue and nausea. My oncologist changed my meds for nausea and it did help. I couldn't eat because the nausea was overwhelming and that worsened my fatigue. All recovered with rest and therefore I was able to have my 5th cycle yesterday

it does t happen to everyone so I am hoping that was a one off

good luck  with yours.  Please keep in touch x
