Dcis now another biopsy

Hi everyone, on Wednesday I was diagnosed with dcis 13mm  my symptom for being referred was nipple discharge.  When I went to the breast clinic I had a core biopsy, with a marker put.  I was also told i am also needing a vacuum biopsy for an area of concern.  No lumps, but when asked about image was told it was faint.  Would I have been advised if this showed calcifications???

Many thanks

  • Hi Shazlarr,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. To be honest I'm not entirely sure of the answer to your question - if they have any uncertainties or are waiting to do more tests to work things out, then it may be that they will wait until they have all the info to pass on to you.

I hope it's not too long to wait for your next appointment and to find out more. In the meantime if you feel you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses then you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi sorry,  was not sure why I had been referred for a vacuum biopsy, is this usually routine.

  • Hello Sharon,

I thought I would share with you our information on the vaccum biopsy which you can read here. It mentions that "you might have this test if your doctor sees an abnormal area in your breast on a mammogram or ultrasound scan" and as they mentioned to you an area of concern, it may be that they want to look more closely at this particular area.

Do give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you'd like to talk things through with them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be able to tell you more about this and about what to expect from this vaccum biopsy.

I hope it all goes well for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello, many thanks

I also had a scan on my lymph nodes the same day, and was informed they looked healthy, nothing showed on my ultrasound, just on my mammogram. Is it possible this could be normal breast tissue?  The lymph nodes looking healthy on my scan is a positive isn't it

    Best wishes

  • Hi Sharon,

Moderators are not medically trained so unfortunately we can't answer this question but I'm glad to hear everything was looking healthy and we'll have our fingers crossed your results confirm this when they come through.

Do feel free to give our cancer nurses a call on the number Mod Lucie gave you in her post if you'd like to talk things through.

    Kind regards,
