Kidney Tumour

Hi there I wonder if anyone can give any info - which I realise is a very broad question but any info would be helpful.
My dad has been diagnosed with a tumour in his kidney which they are going to operate on to remove the whole kidney.  He's 78 and reasonably well - keeps fairly active and no other major health issues.

He has got notification yesterday that he's to go for a CT scan with dye of his chest.  Is this normal pre op or should we be concerned that things may have spread?
also I will be his main carer when he comes home - what can I expect and what should I plan (as much as anyone can in these circumstances).

many thanks

  • Hi Happycampet,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of what your dad is currently going through. I hope you're getting on OK.

I know this won't be too much help but these questions would really best be asked to your dad's doctor/specialist as it is hard for anyone not involved in his care to advise.

It may help for you to talk things through with one of our nurses, who may be able to help. If you would like to, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
