Lung cancer advice /

Mum had been diagnosed with lung cancer

stage 4 Non small cell , adrenocarcenoma

small growth in left corner of lung, but unfortunately has travelled to her adrenal gland & on the scans showing a spec on the left ribcage,

the oncologist sounded very positive,  this can not be cured but can be treated,

mum has been told there 2x chemo and her biopsies did great reacted really well so she can have immunotherapy, and sunday she is going  for stem cell treatment test to see if she can have  a drug trial with stem cells,

I just wondered if anyone on here has experience with this, and if you wouldn't mind sharing that with me,

my mum is 66, the oncologist said how healthy and strong my mum is looking,

she has no obvious symptoms and was looking after my 5 year old until she went for blood tests as she has lost about a stone in weight, unexpectedly,

but like we are all learning that lung cancer is like a granade we have no warning signs until it's already gone ... to an advanced stage  ,,  and if you catch it very early then that is amazing and your chances of survival are so much better,

I just want to kno what to expect with treatment and if anyone has survived with stage 4,

your reply's are very much appreciated

xx

  • Hello Rosie2008,

I am so sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis and I hope that immunotherapy and this stem cell trial will prove to be effective. We have helpful information here on immunotherapy for non small cell lung cancer.  You can also find out more about stage 4 non small cell lung cancer on this page and this page on treatment for advanced lung cancer  may also be of interest.

I hope that you will hear from some of our members who have been affected by this type of cancer and who have enrolled on a similar trial and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

If you ever have any questions about treatment or anything, our nurses are only a free phone call away on 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that treatment can start soon for your mum and that it works well.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank u for your reply,

my mum decided not to go for the drug trial as it is in a phase 1 trial and not knowing much at all about outcomes/ survival / cure  , and risks of blot clots was enough to scare my mum, she has gone  for the safer option and is suppose to be starting chemo and immunotherapy next week, keytruda is the therapy and her biopsies had amazing results so keeping positive for that,

Thanku for your reply , I'm not sure if anyone had been offered the same trial or even took part, as I been posted on the Macmillan site , and had no replies about the particular stem cell treatment.

    take care x
