Womb cancer

Hi, i had a clear d&c and hysterascope a couple of months ago, but due to fibroids and bleeding my consultant performed a total hysterectomy a few weeks later. As there was no suggestion of cancer at the time he did not remove lymph nodes. Im now 5 weeks over the surgery and last week i went back to see him to be told the pathology report showed endometrial cancer. I was told im very lucky in that its at stage 1A and its an endometrioid carcinoma which is slow growing, but should i be concerned that lymph nodes havent been tested? Can they be sure theres no spread without checking lymph glands?  Im just confused in that if its so early and so slow growing why am i booked in for scans? Has anyone had a similar diagnosis? Many thanks for reading, my best wishes to you.

I'm sorry to hear that following your recent surgery you were told that you had endometrial cancer. It's understandable that you have lots of questions and maybe feeling confused and anxious.

We've some information on our website about womb cancer which you may find helpful but I'd really encourage you to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they will be able to answer lots of your questions and give you some advice and reassurance ahead of your next appointments. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your scans and the results will bring some reassuring news. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

im the same I was 1a grade 2 so full hysterectomy but no lympthnodes taken, it then came back grade 3 mix cell, and I’ve worried myself sick how do they know if spread if no nodes taken, I finally saw oncologist on 30th April, and I asked him, he said after mri scan in Feb no node swelling so that’s why took no nodes, but I have a ct scan on Monday 10th so this will check nodes and be my baseline scan for future tests, I think once u’ve had all ur scans your know what’s what, and this will help ur worries
