Colorectal Cancer - Pelvic Side Wall Lymph Nodes

Hi All

I am looking for any knowledge and advice from you all please.

I have a close friend who has recently been for a a colonoscopy which showed a polyp around 3cm. The polyp was removed and sent to histology which showed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma.

A subsequent pet scan has shown that it is spread to the mesorectal and pelvic side wall lymph nodes.

They have been informed that it is probably the case that colon area will need to be removed and subsequent lymph nodes but one issue being is that the pelvic side walls are very difficult area and not many people will do this. However all research I have seen shows it’s reasonably common.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this type of surgery? Any advice/specialist recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hello Mark

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's diagnosis. It's obviously a difficult time and I'm sure that they appreciate your support and friendship.

I'm afraid that I'm not able to answer your questions but I'd certainly suggest giving our nurses a call who I'm sure will be able to offer some help and advice. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, if we've any members here who have had similar diagnoses they will post to share their experiences with you but it may also be worth having a look at the Bowel Cancer UK website where you may be able to connect with others in the same situation.

I hope this helps and that all goes smoothly for your friend.

    Best wishes,
