Diagnosis - Small Cell Lung Cancer

I was diagnosed recently with 'Small Cell Lung Cancer' in my right lung.  I am due a brain CT scan soon to ensure my brain has not been affected as yet by any metastasis.  Been told I will have initially three chemotherapy sessions at the rate of one every three weeks for a span of 6 weeks as an out-patient.  Then I will have another CT scan to check on the progress of the treatment.  Depending upon those results there will probably be more chemo sessions.  If someone had told me all this a month ago I would have refused to believe them.

  • Hello, Nick.

Fast forward 5 or 6 weeks and I have two Chemo sessions under my belt.  I don't precisely know how or in which way they have affected the cancer but the swellings on my neck have shrunk by at least 80% and I am no longer coughing up blood.  I have another Chemo session on Tuesday, June 22nd and that will be the last in the current cycle. I also have a CT Scan booked for Friday, July 2nd and the outcome of that scan will determine what my next phase of treatment will consist of.  The hair on my head has gone South but that is not the big deal I had imagined it would be.  Right now I am delighted with every day that dawns and that is the best I can do at this point in time.

My Mother, brothers, sisters and my long term G/F have been magnificent in their support for me and they have really made the vital difference.  Today I am working on putting bedding plants in ground boxes, window boxes and hanging baskets and hoping against hope that we have a better summer than usual here in the far North West corner of Ireland.   Best wishes to you, Nick, and to all the members of the Forum who are living with this on a daily basis.  May you all gain strength and hope.

  • The Headline on this thread should read 'Small Cell Cancer'.  Apologies for that.

  • Dear Jean (Moderator).

This thread was begun by myself on April 22nd, 2021, at 16.55.  However, the title or heading of the thread is misleading insomuch that I meant to call it 'Diagnosis - Small Cell Cancer' but I mistakenly called it 'Diagnosis - Short Cell Cancer'.  Is there anyway I can amend this typo?  I cannot seem to figure out a way to correct this and I find that the title of the thread is misleading.  I would appreciate your feedback on this and I thank you kindly in advance.
