Dental Assessment

Hi,

My partner has been diagnosed with HPV throat and Lymph cancer. He is having a dental assessment o n Tuesday. If he needs extractions, does anyone know if these will be done on the same day?

thank you

  • Hi Shellb,

I have recently had a similar diagnosis. I went for a dental assessment on Thursday and was advised would need 3 teeth to be extracted. It was not done there and then, I have an appointment for it to be done on Tuesday. I'm not sure if it is always so quick but my radiotherapy is due to start on the 26th so they got me a cancellation in order to prevent my treatment being delayed as obviously your mouth needs a few days to heal after extractions.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello Carobeena,

Thank you for your reply. He hasn't had a an appointment for his radiotherapy planning yet, they said this would come once the dental assessment was complete. He is expecting some extractions though as he has a loose crown and a few gaps, etc.

I hope your treatment goes well, please keep me posted. Good luck and thank you.

  • Thanks for your good wishes Shellb. It's a total roller coaster and sounds like your partner is lucky to have you on his side. I was feeling a bit blasé about the whole process as had positive results from my MRI (no nodes affected and they said would only have to zap one side of my throat). I was gutted to hear had to have 3 teeth removed, however the dentist put things in to perspective by saying that often he has to tell people that they need to have 16 teeth removed! I guess you just need to deal with news as it comes and in the grand scheme of things I suppose three teeth out is not the end of the world.
Hope all goes well for your partner x

  • Like he says, 'What's a few teeth if it saves my life'.

ythanks for your good wishes too, good luck xXx
