Just saw this post and thought I would let you know I have just had my DCIS removed. If they can only see DCIS try not to worry it's non invasive (precancerous) but it can become cancerous so it has to be removed. Calcifications are tiny so it may be they didn't see those ones the first time. It's good they are being thorough so it can all be removed surgically. Did they say how much of it there was or what grade it was (low, intermediate or high)

Thankyou for the reply.I have high grade DCIS and I think it is a very small area.

Ok, so they have to remove it. If it's small will just do a lumpectomy. I had loads of DCIS all over my breast so I have actually had a mastectomy and reconstruction. I consider DCIS is more about prevention. Did you have a lump? Whatever it is you have caught it super early. I was in shock when I got diagnosed as I had no lump.

With things like this your mind starts working against you thinking all sorts of awful things. I was so anxious. The process of diagnosis is the worst. They will check this other area of calcification if it's DCIS as well they will remove it. The consultants know what they are doing. They will treat it and you will be fine. X

My mind is working against me,I'm thinking of the worst,even planning my funeral in my head.It was a total shock to  me.Its actually nice to talk to someone that has been through it.

Yes, I am only a few weeks ahead of you! I had my surgery yesterday! I was super anxious about that too and guess what....it was fine....surprisingly painless. With no lump you really couldn't have found this any earlier. Keep me posted! X

How long did you have to wait before you had surgery?

From my first mammogram to surgery was about 8 weeks. X

Hi. How are you?I going to have day surgery on tuesday to have the DCIS removed and then radiotherapy 4-6 weeks later.I am worried about having the surgery,worried that they wont get it all.

I got the biopsy results on tuesday when I went to see the breast surgeon on tuesday,they said it was DCIS.I am going for day surgery on tuesday to have them removed.I am worried about it and I hope they they remove it all.I will be having radiotherapy which will be between 4-6 weeks after surgery.

Hi, that's good that you are having your surgery so quickly. After surgery they found 1.3mm of invasive so I am also going to have some radiotherapy. I had 9cm of DCIS though. Just waiting to see if it's positive for any hormones as then I will be on tablets for a few years. Hope surgery goes well on Tuesday, I'm sure it will. Let me know how it goes. X

Hi I was also recently diagnosed with dcis but it's 11cm so have to have mastectomy. It didn't show up on mammogram or ultrasound only through biopsy. Am due to see the plastic surgeon next week and they all seem very relaxed but I'm so worried they'll find invasive there as well. The waiting is so hard and just getting little bits of information every appointment makes it so hard to process. 

I had a very large area of DCIS after mastectomy and initially they thought there was microinvasion but they have since said there wasn't. I think even if they find a tiny amount of invasive often your treatment plan won't change as it's really early stage. Once you have had the operation hopefully you will be more relaxed about it as they would have got it all out. Will you be able to have a skin sparing or nipple sparing mastectomy? My DCIS was oestrogen positive so I am on oestrogen suppressing tablets for 5 years. My understanding is that DCIS (even if there is a bit of microinvasion) is usually curative. I also found the drip feeding of information hard but I think they don't want to say too much before they have definite results. They generally have a very good idea of what the outcome will be though. So if they seem relaxed I would think that is a good thing.
