Pleomorphic LCIS

Has anyone else been diagnosed at biopsy with PLCIS and been upgraded after surgery? I am waiting for a bilateral mastectomy next week and they will also remove the sentinel nodes. The doctor clearly said that this was a breast cancer yet all the literature suggest otherwise. He alos said that they cannot say if it is invasive or not until after pathology, but that he was hopeful that it was not. My research indoicates a high level of upgrade followimg surgery. Anyone have any further info?

  • Hello bubbles100,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope that you will meet others on the forum who have had a similar diagnosis and had surgery for PLCIS. I thought I would share with you this thread on our forum by [@Florist38]‍ who had to have a bilateral mastectomy for PLCIS and posted in our Ask the Nurses topic area about this so she could be a good person for you to talk to.

I hope that all goes well with your mastectomy next week. If you wanted to talk to one of our cancer nurses about this, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to discuss this with them.

Best wishes and best of luck for next week,

  • Update, had DMX and sentinel nodes removed plus rerconstruction on 26April. Recovery has been really good, back out running after two weeks. Results revealed upgrade to ILC so it was a good job my surgeon insisted on the DMX. Clear margins and nodes clear too so Tamoxifen for me. Thankfully.

  • Hey Bubbles, thanks for coming back to update us on your progress.

I'm so pleased everything has come back clear and that your recovery went well. It must have been great to be out running again not long after surgery.

I'm not sure how much you know about Tamoxifen, but if you'd like to read up on it, you can do so just here.

    Kind regards,
