whether to choose private health care

I have just been told that I have to wait up to 10 weeks for surgery, even though there is a cancer risk in my diagnosis.  Has anyone else experienced this and would you consider private health care (if you already have such insurance)? I feel as if I would be in good hands with the NHS but I concerned about the surgery waiting time.

  • Hi SusieC,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. This is often something that people consider, and whether to do it really depends on each person's circumstances and preferences. If you are financially covered for it, then that takes away one of the main reasons people have for not doing it. However, while up to 10 weeks sounds a long time, it could be a lot worse and in particular at the moment where waiting times are generally longer.

It may be best to talk this through with your doctor so you can understand your options and any potential benefits.

Otherwise if anyone here has any similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
