Been diagnosed with ET. Is anyone else on this journey?

Hello everyone, I hope you all well (as can be anyway)

I'm 34 and have recently been diagnosed with ET after having various tests due to my platelets being over 1000. I still have a lot to learn and it all feels pretty uncertain but I'm hopeful that other than regularly feeling like a pin cushion, I can live a fairly normal life.

In 2014 I had a blood clot on my brain (celebral venous sinus thrombosis) which they thought was down to the contraceptive pill at the time. For that reason I'm being treated with Peg inferon Alfa which I have to inject once a week and blood thinners. Is anyone else having similar treatment?

I've read a couple of things where people have been given a life expectancy of ten years so that's scary but hopefully with treatment and monitoring this won't be the case. This is all new to me at the moment and I'm not too sure how to feel but just trying to deal with it the best I can. It would be good to chat to people going through the same thing

  • Hello Chelsey

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis with ET. It's understandably an anxious time for you.

We have quite a few members here on the forum living with ET and I can see that you've already found one of our most active threads about ET and chatted with another member there.

I wanted to also suggest that you might like to have a look at the website for Blood Cancer UK who have lots of information about ET and support options available.

You're also most welcome to give our team of nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm). They'll be back in the office after the bank holiday and I'm sure will be happy to offer any support and information that they can.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
