Diagnosed with stage 1 triple negative Breast cancer

So today I went for my biopsy results for what was thought to be a 6mm cyst much to my shock I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer stage 1. He says I need a lumpectomy and 6 months of chemo.
Now I am terrified I've never heard of this and just know it's aggressive and I have an 8 and 6 year old.

also I have a hrt patch for an hysterectomy and I'm not sure if I should be keeping it on as I forgot to ask.

any experiences appreciated this was on the result I expected.

  • Hi Cat198210

Firstly I'm so sorry for your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer in January and felt like my whole world fell apart.

    I'm 33 and have 2 young children (6 years and 2 years).

It's a lot to take in, especially at the start when your mind is jumping to all sorts of scenarios and you have so many questions. All I can say is that you have to take it one day at a time, you will get more information about your diagnosis and treatment and it does get that bit easier to just stop, breathe, and battle on through.

In the meantime feel free to cry, scream, even shout if you need to. Speak to those closest to you and keep them in the loop about how your feeling. It really did help me to talk and just let my anxieties out.

Keeep speaking to us on here too as it really does help massively speaking to others who are going through the same thing. We are all in this together!

  • Hi Amy

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me, I hope your treatment is going well, can I ask did you have a lumpectomy and chemotherapy? I have lots of questions now I was a little stunned in the appointment and my brain went blank. Now I have lots all running around xx

  • I was the same, luckily I was allowed to bring my partner with me so I had someone else to take all the information in for me.

I haven't had surgery yet; because my breast cancer is HER2 positive I have to have chemotherapy first, then I think it will be lumpectomy (although I'm hoping for mastectomy).

I've currently had 2 sessions of chemotherapy out of 6, but am waiting for my MRI results to see if the chemotherapy is working.

If you have any questions feel free to ask (although our diagnosis' are not the same I might be able to help, or somebody else might pop into the chat who can help).

I also found it extremely helpful to ring up my breast care nurse if I had any specific questions realting to my personal situation and she really helped put my mind at ease.

Remember you're not in this alone.

hoping I feel calmer as time goes on.
