Diagnosed - HPV Positive - Left oropharyngeal scc

Hello all,

I have recently been diagnosed with T2 N1 HPV positive throat cancer. I was supposed to start my 6 weeks chemoradiotherapy treatment tomorow 15th March.

Unfortunately, this has been cancelled until the following week 22nd March as I am waiting for a feeding tube fitting, which is scheduled for next Tuesday 16th March. I'm a reasonably healthy 56 years old and am type 1 diabetic, so am used to managing my diet ect.

I'm realy after some advice from others, who have had similar type cancers and what to look forward to  After speaking to my care and planning team, they have given me a lot of information on what to expect, but I would appreciatte fellow suffers opions as well.

Due to the covid restriction and very little close contact with clinical teams, I feel that examinations of the effected area have been limited. I say this, because as i'm writing, my throat feels not to bad, but for the previous 2-3 weeks its felt like its been getting worse with pain, eating and swallowing. Over the last couple of days this has reduced to an acceptable level, which helps me to feel much better mentally. I think that I may have had an infection that enflamed the situation or maybe it the calm before the storm.

Anyway, any advice from similar experienced peers welcome.

Thanks, Jimmy

  • I'm sorry your treatment has been slightly delayed but fingers crossed once the feeding tube is fitted, things can start heading in the right direction :)
